The theatre sister, known as Reta, was one of the best known and popular faces at Glasgow's Victoria Infirmary, where she worked for 43 years until she retired this week. She said yesterday: "I had a plan that if I got to 70, which I did in April this year, and I was fit and well it would be time to go. "I've had a marvellous career. I've loved it all. I'll dearly miss all my wonderful colleagues and the patients, too. It will be strange not working but I feel now's the right time to retire." She added: "I'm really looking forward to spending more time with my family."
