It is flanked by rugged mountains.  Eoe1/4" The 17th International Child Health Conference, organised by the Child Health Department of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sultan Qaboos University Sultan Qaboos University, located in Muscat, Oman, , is the only public university in the Sultanate of Oman. Named after Qaboos bin Sa’id Al ‘Bu Sa’id the Sultan of Oman, the university opened its doors in 1986.  (SQU SQU Sultan Qaboos University (Oman)

), was opened yesterday under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Dr Ali bin Saud Al Bimani.

Around 500 participants including experts and specialists in child health from the Gulf region and different parts of the world are attending the conference which focuses on Eoe1/4Y[pounds sterling]chronic childhood illnessesEoe1/4ao.

In his welcome speech, Dr Yassir Wali, the chairman of the conference organising committee, said that the state-of-the-art diagnostic tools and excellent therapeutic modalities have revolutionised the management of chronic diseases, but offering them the best possible rehabilitation still remains a challenge.

Dr Said Al Yahyai, SQU deputy vice-chancellor for Academic Affairs & Community Service, while speaking on behalf of the university, observed that the healthcare system in Oman, comprising well organised primary and secondary levels and the modern tertiary care tertiary care Managed care The most specialized health care, administered to Pts with complex diseases who may require high-risk pharmacologic regimens, surgical procedures, or high-cost high-tech resources; TC is provided in 'tertiary care centers', often  centres, is well recognised by international community including the World Health Organisation. However, the magnitude of chronic problems among children in Oman is relatively high.

Dr Said expressed the hope that the conference would provide an opportunity to discuss and review the latest information in clinical practice of these disorders.

At the opening ceremony, Dr Saleh bin Mohammed Al Khusaiby, dean of Oman Medical College, made a presentation on the development of paediatrics in Oman with special reference to Professor Musallem bin Seif El Bualy, the pioneer of Child Health services in the country.

Dr Saleh emphasised on the role played by Professor El Bualy in setting up and developing curriculum and teaching methods for paediatrics students. He recollected that Professor Al Bualy played a major role in the introduction and control of communicable diseases, and National Primary Health Care Programmes as a result of which, Oman achieved a rapid decline in infant and childhood mortality rates and growth in immunisation rate.

Dr Michael Shevel, a professor from McGill University in Canada delivered the first keynote address on the topic Eoe1/4Y[pounds sterling]Ethical challenges in neonatal neurologyEoe1/4ao. Dr M. C. Mathew from Christian Medical College, Vellore, India gave a presentation on Eoe1/4Y[pounds sterling]Minor neurological dysfunction in preschool children and their implicationsEoe1/4ao.

A poster exhibition is also part of the conference.
