500 T/A Terpineol Unit Completed in Hainan.

The first turpentine processing enterprise in Hainan has been completed and put on stream at the foot of the Bawang Mount. It shows that the history of only selling raw materials in Hainan pine gum industry has been brought to an end.

Hainan has rich pinus finlaysoniana resources. There is more than 1 million mu(lmu=l/15ha) of pinus finlaysoniana trees already tapped or ready for tapping. However, no forest chemical industry exists in the area. For long years pine gum has been made into turpentine through simple processing and refining for sale to other provinces at a low profit. Bawang Mount Forest Bureau has therefore invested over 10 million yuan to launch a turpentine in-depth processing project in the forest chemical plant. It is expected that 1 250 tons of turpentine can be processed into 500 tons of terpineol each year.

The forest chemical plant at the Bawang Mount uses the two-step rectification process and the product purity reaches the national standard. 2.5 tons of turpentine can be processed into 1 ton of terpineol and 1.5 tons of auxiliary products such as flotation oil. As a result, the value per ton product will be increased from over 6 000 yuan to 15 000 yuan.
