Florida had become my domicile of choice in early 1948, 50 the next highlight of my life was attending Stetson College of Law in DeLand, culminating in graduation and admission to The Florida Bar in 1953.  of our first child, Lynne, and, as a result, missing my first day as a practicing lawyer/associate at Giles, Hedrick and Robinson in Orlando all occurred on one momentous day, November 1, 1956. During most of the ensuing 47 years of my practice in Orange County (over 41 years as a sole practitioner), I have been nurtured and sustained by the quality of our judiciary (one of the reasons I chose to locate in Orange County in 1956) and the lawyers who practiced in this circuit, and I am sure our clients and the public in general also benefitted therefrom. Community service in civic, lawyer, church, alumni, and local government endeavors were also sustaining over the years. I hope the judicial system, and the practice of law as I have known them, will retain their established strengths-and traditions, continue to reap the benefits of modern technology, and avoid possible erosion from politics, financial influences affecting the law practice and judicial elections, security needs, lawyer advertising and other current trends or realities.

Family: Spouse - widowed, divorced, widowed, present spouse Linda Jan Tardif; children - son, Robert G. Tardif (logistics officer, Navy Center San Diego, CA), daughter-in-law Liz, son, Paul Hugh Tardif, daughter-in-law Vicki.

Career/Life Highlights: On May 13, 2003, I received my J.D. degree from the University of Miami - just 50 years after I received my LL.B. I quit high school to join the U S. Marine Corps in WWII and became a flame thrower operator (See movie "Wind Jammers") and served in the Pacific theater with service in China. I was honorably discharged as a corporal just like Hitler. I went back to high school for two months when I was informed that Indiana University had accepted me, so I quit high school again. I took 16 hours my first semester and received 20 additional credits by special examination, so that by June 1947, I was a college sophomore. Upon returning home for the summer, another high school class was graduating and I subsequently received two high school diplomas, one for the class of 45 and the other for the class of 47, both after I finished my sophomore year in college.

While pursuing my B.S. in Social Service, I became post commander for the Ernie Pyle American Legion Post, with 500 members, at the age of 19, the youngest post commander in the history of the American Legion. I became national sargent-at-arms. I began to do volunteer work for veterans, which became my repayment for-the education I received due to the G.I. Bill. For 57 years, I have served continuously in numerous veteran organizations, holding many offices in each of the organizations. My main hobby is attending two to three national conventions each year to renew old acquaintances and sight-see.

I graduated from Indiana University and started law school but transferred to the University of Miami to complete my final year and a-half in 1953.

Started as a sole practitioner, representing clients throughout the state. I have been surprised to find that many of the courthouses where I tried cases have not survived the same 50 years that I have. Iran the gauntlet of minor traffic cases through a murder trial (my client is still on death row), personal injury trials, real estate, family law, bankruptcy, corporations, etc., and all without billing my clients. I tell them what they owe me, if they pay or not, I move on. I'm happy that I am in a position to help others and can be active in the kind of life I like to live.

My practice left me some spare time to become a member of the Jaycees, the Knights of Columbus Knights of Columbus, American Roman Catholic society for men, founded (1882) at New Haven, Conn. (where its headquarters are still located), by Father Michael J. McGivney. , the Kiwanis, and the Boy Scouts of America Noun 1. ROBERT E. ZIEGLER, Fort Lauderdale.

Family: Children - Dana Z. Holding, Tracy Z. Dunn, Robert B. Ziegler III Alyson Z. Parker; two of my children are lawyers.

Career/Life Highlights; My career started in Philadelphia, where after two years I determined that the prestige of being a Philadelphia. Lawyer was more a myth than reality; and, therefore, I returned to South Florida where I joined the firm which subsequently became Rogers, Morris & Ziegler, with whom I have bonded for approximately 48 years. Early in my career, I was given the opportunity of handling the major part of the trial practice which consisted primarily of a general, civil and commercial trial practice. As a result of the broad range of litigation, I was exposed to many areas of the law which enabled me to become knowledgeable in several areas that I found attractive in which I could practice if I so elected. I found the variety of litigation to be challenging, stimulating and highly rewarding. Also, I have for over 30 years, represented a county board which has exclusive authority over the building code in Broward County and on occasion, represented several municipalities as special counsel. I fee l very fortunate that. I could practice in many fields of law, because it presented me with an opportunity to meet and develop relationships with many lawyers. For the past eight years, I have limited my practice to transactional work and estate planning and administration. Aside from my professional career, I participated in several associations and organizations in a leadership roll.

The true test as to whether a person selected the right career and enjoyed it, is whether he would repeat his career. I would repeat my career without any reservations.
