5 charged over fake notes haul; CRIME: Police seize pounds 1m in counterfeit currency probe.

POLICE have charged five men after recovering an estimated pounds 1 million in counterfeit bank notes from addresses in Birmingham.

Officers from Harborne police station and the Economic Crime Unit recovered the counterfeit money from addresses in Smethwick, Nechells and Handsworth on Friday and Saturday.

The operation resulted in one of the largest seizures of its kind in the Midlands.

It was launched following the arrest of two men in Icknield Street Icknield Street (ĭk`nēld), name for a prehistoric road in England, extending SW from the Wash, along the line of the Chiltern Hills and Berkshire Downs, to Salisbury Plain. , Hockley on Friday.

Money making chemicals and equipment were also recovered from the addresses by officers.

They also found substantial amounts of genuine UK and foreign currency, suspected false credit cards, false identity documentation and a VRN VRN Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Neckar

"A woman who was arrested has been released without charge."
