5 VYING TO BECOME LANCASTER MAYOR\8 seek seat on council in April vote.

Five people, including two former mayors and the city's vice mayor, are running for mayor in the April 9 election - the first election in which Lancaster residents will directly elect their mayor.

, former Mayor Arnie Rodio and Vice Mayor Michael Singer are running for the position.

The April election will also feature eight candidates running for one seat on the City Council.

The deadline for filing for both council and mayoral elections was Wednesday.

Running for the council seat are: former Lancaster School District Lancaster School District may refer to:

The mayor's post is a two-year term, while the council seat is a four-year term.

Runner, Jr. (born March 25 1952 in Scotia, New York) is a Republican California State Senator, who represents the 17th Senate District, which includes portions of Los Angeles County, San Bernardino County and Ventura County. , whose term also will expire in April, has opted to run for the state Assembly.

In November, Lancaster voters opted to make the mayor's post an elected position with a term of two years rather than continuing the practice of rotating ro·tate
