Five Jewish educators each received a $10,000 award Friday for exemplary service to the children of Jewish schools in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. .

 were not aware they had been selected for the honors, organizers said, and each was surprised with the news during a school assembly.

The winners were:

Rabbi Asher Biron, Judaic studies instructor at Valley Torah High School in North Hollywood.

Lee Shaw, a kindergarten teacher at Abraham Joshua Heschel Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel (January 11, 1907, Warsaw, then Russian Empire – December 23, 1972) was considered by many to be one of the most significant Jewish theologians of the 20th century.  Day School in Northridge.

Lana Kideckel Marcus, principal at Adat Ari El Day School in North Hollywood.

The Milken Family Foundation was established in 1982 with a core commitment to education. Other areas of concentration are medical research, health care and community welfare.

Selection of the award recipients is made by a committee of educators and leaders from the Jewish community.

The latest recipients of the Jewish Educator Awards will receive them at a luncheon honoring them Dec. 19 at the Regency Beverly Wilshire Hotel.
