5 HURT IN COLLISION ON GOLDEN STATE.

Five people were injured in a collision on the Golden State Freeway The Golden State Freeway is a north-south freeway running through Kern County and Los Angeles County, California. Originally built as U.S. Highway 99, it was re-signed as Interstate 5 in 1964.  in Newhall on Saturday, causing a major traffic jam in the area.

 Officer Josh Moore said a 1978 Ford Fairmount carrying seven passengers was hit from behind by a 1986 Volkswagen Golf near the Lyons Avenue off-ramp at about 10:30 a.m.

``Both cars spun out of control, and the Fairmount caught fire,'' Moore said. Authorities determined that the driver of the Golf failed to notice traffic slowing ahead and slammed into the back of the Fairmount, Moore said.

Four passengers in the Golf and one in the Fairmount were taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor to moderate injuries, the CHP CHP Chapter
