``We certainly are distressed,'' said Ed Ogelsby, who coordinated the Love Ride through Harley-Davidson of Glendale. ``It takes away from the theme of the event and the mood of the event. After all, this is for the kids.''

Glendale police spokesman Chahe Keuroghelian said five motorcycles were stolen from in and around the Metrolink station, where the Love Ride started. Some 25,000 motorcyclists participated in the 13th annual event. About $1.1 million was raised for the charity, Ogelsby said.

Keuroghelian said police have no leads in the thefts. He said all five may have been the work of one group of thieves.
