5 CITY POOLS OFFER PROGRAMS IN FITNESS AND FUN.Byline: Daily News The city of Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country, operates five outdoor swimming pools that offer programs from synchronized swimming synchronized swimming Swimming sport in which the movements of one or more swimmers are synchronized with a musical accompaniment. The sport developed in the U.S. in the 1930s and was admitted as an Olympic event (solo and duet only) in 1984; in 1996 the rules were changed to family ``Dive-In Movies.'' The locations are Newhall Park, 24933 Newhall Ave.; North Oaks Pool, 27824 Camp Plenty Road, Canyon Country; Santa Clarita Park, 27285 Seco Canyon Road, Saugus; Valencia Glen Pool, 23750 Via Gavola; and Valencia Meadows Pool, 25671 Fedala Road. Among the programs offered are swimming and diving diving Sport of plunging into water, usually headfirst and often following the execution of one or more acrobatic maneuvers. It emerged as a competitive sport in the late 19th century and became part of the Olympic Games in 1904. classes, lifeguard training, lap swimming, water polo water polo, swimming game encompassing features of soccer, football, basketball, and hockey. And that oh-so-California Dive-In Movies program will start July 13 when ``The Muppet Movie'' will be screened at dusk at Valencia Glen Pool. Other dates are July 20 at North Oaks for ``Spaceballs'' and July 27 for ``Babe'' at Santa Clarita. The cost is $7 and includes the movie, a hot dog, drink, popcorn and an inner tube.
