4THPASS INTRODUCES NEW VERSION OF KBROWSER FOR PALM OS.

Seattle-based 4thpass, Inc., a provider of WAP-based wireless microbrowsers that run on Palm and Java platforms, has unveiled 4thpass KBrowser Preview 2 version for devices using the Palm OS. The new version of KBrowser, the most popular WAP (1) (Wireless Access Point) See access point.

See smartphone and WAP.  for the Palm platform, allows users to download and install PRC programs wirelessly, without requiring them to perform a Hotsync operation. With the Preview 2 version, users click on a Palm Application reference within a WML (Wireless Markup Language) A tag-based language used in the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP). WML is an XML document type allowing standard XML and HTML tools to be used to develop WML applications. It evolved from Openwave's HDML, but WML is not a superset of HDML.  (Wireless Markup Language Wireless Markup Language, based on XML, is a content format for devices that implement the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) specification, such as mobile phones, and preceded the use of other markup languages now used with WAP, such as XHTML and even standard HTML (which are ) page just as they would on a hyperlink in a web page, and are then able to download the requested file.

KBrowser Palm Edition, a small footprint, high-performance, WAP 1.2 compliant microbrowser, first released in May of 2000, is broadly recognized for its friendly user interface and has emerged as the de facto [Latin, In fact.] In fact, in deed, actually.

WAP microbrowser for Palm among consumers and mobile application developers. In the new release, 4thpass has added several compelling features, including support for wireless file updating and new interoperability with 3rd party WAP Gateways, making it an invaluable component of any wireless application developer's toolkit A set of software routines and utilities used to help programmers write an application. For graphical interfaces, it provides the tools and libraries for creating menus, dialog boxes, fonts and icons. .

"WAP is great as network protocol. It frees developers from having to deal with many different networks. But it is not a mature application platform. Users are demanding more functionality and a better experience," said Zeyad Ramadan, vice president of Marketing at 4thpass. "With the Preview 2 of KBrowser developers can build and deliver wireless palm applications. Until now, you've had all these mobile devices you can take anywhere, but you weren't completely wireless. You still needed your desktop computer in order to Hotsync, which was the only way to get any new files to your PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) A handheld computer for managing contacts, appointments and tasks. It typically includes a name and address database, calendar, to-do list and note taker, which are the functions in a personal information manager (see PIM). . Now, with KBrowser you can download the coolest game or a new business application while walking down the street."

The new KBrowser Preview 2 can be used on Palm III, Palm V, Palm VII, Handspring Visor, and other PDAs based on the Palm OS. Other features include Favorites, support for WBMP (Wireless BMP) A graphic file format for WAP-enabled wireless phones. The format was designed to support multiple image types, but was introduced with only one: a Type "0" uncompressed monochrome bitmap. See WAP.
