4TH DIMENSION SOFTWARE ANNOUNCES AVAILABILITY OF MULTIPLATFORM CONTROL-M(TM) -- AUTOMATED JOB SCHEDULING FOR VAX/VMS, UNIX AND AS/400

TEL AVIV, Israel, Nov. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- 4th Dimension Software Ltd. (4D) (NASDAQ: DDDDF) announces the general availability of a new product, MultiPlatform CONTROL-M. MultiPlatform CONTROL-M provides automated job scheduling and production control capabilities for UNIX(R) (Sun's SPARC/Solaris and IBM RS/6000), VAX/VMS, and AS/400 platforms.
MultiPlatform CONTROL-M brings to the midrange systems the same robust facilities that have made 4D's CONTROL-M the best-selling mainframe MVS job scheduling and production control system during the past two years.
In addition to bringing mainframe scheduling capabilities to the UNIX, AS/400, and VAX/VMS platforms, MultiPlatform CONTROL-M also allows both intra-platform and cross-platform dependencies to be defined. This permits a job or a process running on one platform to trigger a different job or process on the same platform or on any other platform supported by MultiPlatform CONTROL-M or CONTROL-M for MVS. Schedules are defined using 4D's Enterprise ControlStation (ECS), which runs on a SPARC/Solaris station or an IBM RS/6000. Communication between the ECS and the platform on which MultiPlatform CONTROL-M runs is handled via LU6.2 or TCP/IP.
The operator interacts with MultiPlatform CONTROL-M using the same user-friendly Graphical User Interface (GUI) regardless of the platform being supported. This enables a single operator to monitor and control any number of heterogeneous platforms (from mid-range to MVS mainframes) from a single workstation without having to be knowledgeable about each platform.
Comments Yossie Hollander, chief executive officer of 4D, "As they move to client/server technology, companies can't afford to duplicate the staffing they have on the mainframe across every platform. The sheer number of platforms makes this financially prohibitive. Because the data center staff has more than 20 years of systems management experience, 4D is providing software that will take advantage of this knowledge. In turn, IT personnel will be able to extend their operational know-how across multiple platforms -- all from a single workstation."
MultiPlatform CONTROL-M will be expanded during 1994 to include support for up to 40 hardware platforms including HP, UNISYS, Data General, Netware, and others. MultiPlatform CONTROL-M is a member of the Enterprise Control Architecture(TM) (ECA) solution set for distributed systems management. ECA is the first commercially available product architecture that provides a single point of control, thereby reducing training costs and staffing requirements. The Enterprise Control Architecture provides the platform-independent solutions necessary to ensure successful client/server implementation.
