JUMPS

POLE VAULT pole vault

Track-and-field event consisting of a vault for height over a crossbar with the aid of a long pole. It became a competitive sport in the mid-19th century and was included in the first modern Olympic Games.
 - Newport's Austin Ouderkirk has the top mark in the state at 15-6 this season and won district at 15-4. No other competitor has cleared 15 feet this spring. Lane Davison of North Bend North Bend is the name of several places in the United States of America:

  • North Bend State Park
, the 3A runner-up last season, is the top contender with a clearance at 14-9 this season.

LONG JUMP - Expect a close finish here as five competitors exceeded 21 feet at districts, led by Yamhill-Carlton's Jake Weber Jake Weber (born March 19, 1964) is a British actor.

Weber was born in London, England and attended Middlebury College in Vermont, where he majored in English Literature and Political Science, graduating cum laude with a BA.
, who has the top qualifying mark of 21-10 1/4 . Sisters junior Cory McCaffrey, a record-setting running back for the Outlaws, placed second last year at the 3A meet and has the state's top mark this year at 21-11 1/4 .

TRIPLE JUMP - Lane Seals of North Bend won the 3A title last year as a sophomore and has the state's top mark at 43-7 this season. Bruce Bruce, Scottish royal family descended from an 11th-century Norman duke, Robert de Brus. He aided William I in his conquest of England (1066) and was given lands in England.  Burbank of Newport, who finished third behind Seals last year, has a season best of 43-3. Siuslaw's Trevor May and Philomath's Brian Schaudt have also exceeded 43 feet this season.

HIGH JUMP - Danny Staats of Henley has the state's top mark of 6-6, but three others have cleared 6-4 this season, including Bryant Sentman of Cottage Grove Cottage Grove, village (1990 pop. 22,935), Washington co., SE Minn., near the St. Croix River; inc. 1965. There is farming (cattle, sheep, corn, and soybeans) and manufacturing (chemicals and machinery).  and Bryce Siegel of Siuslaw. Ramsey Audiss of Cascade A connected series of devices or images. THROWS

 of Molalla and Jordan Aldredge of Gladstone finished 1-2 at last year's 3A meet and both return this season. Barker has the top qualifying mark of 54-6, and Aldredge is second at 53-8. Aldredge has a season best of 56-10 that leads the state. Bjorn McCord of Seaside Seaside.

JAVELIN - Aldredge is a contender here too, as he ranks second in the state this season with a mark of 186-3. Justin Hamill of La Grande has the top mark at 188-4, and Paul Guffey of North Bend has the top qualifying mark out of districts at 183-10. Martin Martinez of Cascade also has thrown 180 this year.

SPRINTS

100 - Aldredge is a rare thrower who also sprints, and he has the top time in the state this season at 10.94. Gabe Flores Flores, town, Guatemala

200 - Bennett won the 3A title last year in 22.68 last season and his best this year is 22.89. Flores has the state's top mark at 22.23, and JP Walters of La Pine has run 22.40. Bryan Harper of Junction City Junction City, city (1990 pop. 20,604), seat of Geary co., NE Kans., at the confluence of the Republican and Smoky Hill rivers; inc. 1859. The rail, trade, and processing center of an agricultural and dairy area, it grew as the supply point for nearby Fort Riley, , who finished third at state last year behind Bennett and Flores, has the top qualifying time of 22.41.

400 - Harper placed third at the 3A meet in this race last year and he has the fastest time this year of 49.33. No other runner has a sub-50-second time as Walters is second at 50.74. Caleb Trowbridge of Sutherlin is also a contender.

MIDDLE DISTANCES

800 - Marshall Roses Marshall T. Rose is a network protocol and software engineer, author and speaker who has contributed to the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), the Internet, and Internet and network applications.  of Molalla and Matt Hollander of Marist finished 2-3 at last year's 3A meet, and they are the favorites Another term for bookmarks, which was popularized by Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser. Connor Kasler of Hidden Valley has the top qualifying time from districts at 1:58.88.

3,000 - Elmira's Nelson Zaludek and Lynass of North Bend are the top finishers from last year's 3A meet when they were second and third, respectively. Lynass has the top qualifying time at 8:51.70, followed by Lindsay and Berrian. Jantzer is one of four runners to run under nine minutes this year when he finished in 8:54.39.

HURDLES

110-METER HIGH HURDLES - Siuslaw's Trevor May returns after winning the 3A title in 15.05 last year. He has the third-fastest qualifying time at 15.12. Marist's Nate Dillow has the best time in the state this year of 14.60. Seaside's Dennis Olstedt, who placed third at state last year, is next at 14.92.

300-METER INTERMEDIATE HURDLES - Olstedt and Dillow could be at the front of the race here too, as they are the only two competitors to run a sub-40 time this year. Olstedt, who was third at state last year, has run 39.19, and Dillow has a best time of 39.49. Illinois Illinois, river, United States

 Valley's Larry Ragsdale was fourth at state last year and has the No. 3 qualifying time at 40.07.

RELAYS

4x100 - The Sky-Em League provides three of the four top contenders as Sisters has the top qualifying time at 43.32, followed by South Umpqua of the Far West League at 43.52. Junction City is next at 43.85, with Marist fourth at 44.13.

4x400 - Marist is the favorite with a season best of 3:27.94 that is nearly two seconds faster than any other team. The Spartans have the top qualifying time out of districts at 3:29.34, followed by Siuslaw at 3:30.24. Seaside and Brookings are other contenders.

TEAM OUTLOOK

Marist is the favorite heading into the meet with runners like Hollander and Dillow expected to score points in multiple events, and two strong relay teams. North Bend is the top contender led by strong competitors Davison, Seals and Guffey in the field events. Aldredge makes Gladstone a factor because he is a contender in four events, and Molalla and Siuslaw will also battle for the title.

4A GIRLS OUTLOOK

JUMPS

POLE VAULT - A couple of North Bend freshmen could steal the show. Sammie Clark and Brooke Davison both cleared 10-3 at districts to tie for the top qualifying mark along with Yana Nemecek of La Salle La Salle, city (1990 pop. 9,717), La Salle co., N Ill., on the Illinois River; settled 1830, inc. 1852. It forms a tricity unit with Peru and Oglesby. Corn, wheat, and soybeans are grown, and cattle and hogs are raised. . Davison has the state's top mark this season at 10-10, and Melissa Frankenhauser of Cascade was the only other vaulter to exceed 10-3 this season when she went 10-4.

LONG JUMP - Amy Skofstad of Gladstone is the heavy favorite after jumping 19-4 at districts to earn the top qualifying mark by more than a foot. Skofstad, who won the 3A title last season, has the top mark in the state this season at 19-5. Charlene Harber of Astoria, who finished second to Skofstad at state last year, jumped 18-3 1/2 at districts to become the only other jumper The simplest form of an on/off switch. It is just a tiny, plastic-covered metal block, which is pushed onto two pins to close that circuit. It is used to select a myriad of functions on a printed circuit board or on a peripheral device.  in the field to clear 18 feet.

TRIPLE JUMP - Harber of Astoria jumped a season-best 36-3 3/4 last week to earn the top qualifying mark. Jill Richards Rich·ards , Dickinson Woodruff 1895-1973.

 of Baker, who went 33-9 1/4 at districts, has the state's top mark this season at 36-5 1/2 . Skofstad, the favorite in the long jump, is also a contender along with Tillamook's Stephanie Beeler.

HIGH JUMP - Seaside's Marla Olstedt is one of three jumpers

 to clear 5-3 this season, but she was the only one to go that high at districts. Junction City's Katie Rear has the second-best qualifying mark at 5-2, and she has also cleared 5-3 this season along with Mikayla Morgan Morgan, American family of financiers and philanthropists.

THROWS

SHOT PUT - Astoria's Laura Bobek enters the meet as the favorite after finishing second in 3A last year. She has a season best of 42-11 1/2 that she threw last week. Newport's Krystle Forester is the only other entrant en·trant

 to exceed 40 feet when she threw 40-5 3/4 . Jamie Coggins of Astoria got close to the 40-foot mark at districts when she hit 39-4 1/4 .

DISCUS - Bobek, who was also second in this event last year, is the pick to win the discus as well because she leads the state with a throw of 147-8, which is nearly 20 feet farther than any other thrower. Kayla Burrus of Scappoose is the nearest competitor with a mark of 128-4.

JAVELIN - This should be a close competition as freshman Jordan Brunetti of Cottage Grove has the top mark in the state at 132-8, but her district-winning toss of 121-2 ranks fifth in the field. Sara Cole of Central has the second-best mark this season at 131-4, and Nikki Ramsey of Gladstone, who finished third at the 3A meet last year, and Laura Helgerson of Baker have both thrown 129 feet.

SPRINTS

100 - Jessica Rodolf of Junction City, a transfer from North Eugene, and Braidy Bates Bates   , Katherine Lee 1859-1929.

American educator and writer best known for her poem "America the Beautiful," written in 1893 and revised in 1904 and 1911.
 of Pleasant Hill finished 1-2 at districts, and they could once again lead the pack across the line at state. Rodolf has the top qualifying time of 12.25 seconds and Bates, the runner-up at the 3A meet last year, is second at 12.34. Gladstone's Skofstad and Bianca Davis of Ontario are also top contenders.

200 - Rodolf is a favorite to make it a sweep of the 100 and 200 as she also has the top qualifying time of 25.40 in the 200. Skofstad, last year's 3A champion, and Delani Cox of Ontario are the only other runners with a qualifying time under 26 seconds. Bates is also a contender.

400 - Laura Schmitt of La Salle and Jordan Bainbridge of Ontario are the only two runners to run a sub-59-second race this season. Schmitt has the top qualifying time of 58.88, and Bainbridge is right behind her at 58.94. Marist's Tahne Apo was the runner-up in this event last spring at the 3A meet.

DISTANCES

800 - Linsie Michels of Cascade seeks her third straight state title in this race. Michels has the top time in the state of 2:15.33. Mikayla Bradbury of Molalla is her top challenger with a season best of 2:18.92. Annan Applebee of Gladstone is the only other runner to go under 2:21 this season.

1,500 - Michels and Taylor Wallace Wal·lace , Alfred Russel 1823-1913.

 of Henley could put on a show in this race; Wallace won the 3A title last year, and Michels has the state's top mark of 4:47.64. Wallace won last year as a freshman in 4:43.33 and has a season best of 4:50.33 this year. Meghan Whalen of Marist and Siuslaw's Leah Twombly are among the other contenders.

3,000 - Wallace also won this event at last year's 3A meet in 10:07.03. Her fastest time this year is 10:40.04. Philomath's Hayley Belli has the state's top time of 10:24.59, and Wallace is second.

HURDLES

100-METER HIGH HURDLES - Katie Sterling of Pleasant Hill has the fastest qualifying time of 15.60, and Marist's Kate Wilkins Wil·kins , Maurice Hugh Frederick 1916-2004.

 was second at 15.72. Wilkins placed third at the 3A meet last year. Alisha Buss of Stayton has the second-fastest time of 15.64. Katie Rear of Junction City is also in the mix.

300-METER INTERMEDIATE HURDLES - Cascade's Danielle Albus was the runner-up last year at the 3A meet and enters as the favorite. She has the state's top qualifying mark of 46.09. Taylor Vandehey of North Valley is the only other entrant to run a sub-47-second race.

RELAYS

4x100 - Cascade is the only team to break 50 seconds this year, when the Cougars won districts in 49.55. Cascade won this event at the 3A meet last year. Junction City and Cottage Grove are two of the top contenders along with Ontario.

4x400 - Henley and Cascade are poised to battle to the end as the Hornets have the state's top time of 4:04.76, and the Cougars are second at 4:05.00. Newport and La Salle are the other top contenders.

TEAM OUTLOOK

Cascade and Henley are considered the favorites with Junction City, Gladstone and Marist among the other top contenders. Cascade and Henley could battle head-to-head in a couple races on the track when Michels and Wallace contend in the 1,500, and the meet could be determined in the long relay as both schools are among the favorites in the final event.
