THOUSANDS will take to the streets of Dublin today for the 24th annual Flora Flora, in Roman religion, goddess of flowers and fertility. Her festival, the Floralia, Apr. 28–May 1, was celebrated with great gaiety and licentiousness.  Women's Mini Marathon.

The race is the biggest all-women's event of its kind in the world and 40,500 woman are expected to be on starter's orders.

Starting back in 1983 with 9,000 runners, a grand total of 440,000 women have now taken part over the years.

Women decide which charity they want to run for, and since the race began more than EUR EUR

Catherine Macneill, a representative of the project, is hoping for a landmark day.

She said: "We are expecting about 40,500 people for today's race which would be a record.

"We are also hoping to push the amount raised since the start of the race over the EUR100million mark."

Women of all ages take part with competitors coming from as far as New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia. The capital is Wellington; the largest city and leading port is Auckland.  and Japan.
