The aftershocks are among more than 10,000 in the region since the 6.7-magnitude quake struck Jan. 17, 1994, and caused about $400 million in damage to the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. No damage was reported Tuesday, but the aftershocks generated a dozen calls to Caltech's earthquake emergency hotline, spokeswoman Sue Pitts said.

The aftershocks originated five miles southwest of Newhall and 11 miles northeast of the Northridge Earthquake The Northridge earthquake occurred on January 17, 1994 at 4:31 AM Pacific Standard Time in the city of Los Angeles, California. The earthquake had a "strong" moment magnitude of 6.  epicenter.

The thousands of aftershocks have included 48 4-magnitude quakes, Pitts said. There also have been 10 quakes with a magnitude of 5 or greater.

And seismologists expect more aftershocks. Northridge aftershocks are distinguished from others by their time and distance from the original epicenter in Reseda.
