4 million Blacks have a B.A. degree.


Nearly 2 million African Americans are attending college or are enrolled in graduate and professional schools in spite of legislative restrictions on affirmative action in higher education. According to the Journal of Blacks in Higher Education, 4 million African Americans of all ages hold a bachelor's degree; of African Americans 25 years and older, 18.5% have a B.A., up from 13.8% in 1996. Nearly 1 million also hold a master's degree, and more than 100,000 African American have a Ph.D.
