4 killed in Florida mobile home fire

Four people were killed and six injured after a fire trapped them inside a mobile home early Sunday, authorities said.

Sheriff's deputies responding to the 2:30 a.m. blaze at a trailer park said six people managed to get out, but they could not reach those still inside.

"They tried to do what they could, but it was too much," sheriff's spokeswoman Kristin Adams said Sunday.

The extent of the injuries of the survivors was unclear, Adams said. The three most seriously injured were taken to a local trauma center. Doctors were considering sending at least one person to a burn center in Tampa, about 150 miles north of the rural town in southwest Florida, Adams said.

Investigators were still trying to identify the dead and injured Sunday afternoon.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
