IT was the great Sir Bobby Robson who once mused "footballers can't be monks - we don't want them to be monks, we want them to be football players because a monk doesn't play football at this level".

But former Chelsea flop Mateja Kezman seems intent on disproving the loveable codger's somewhat addled theory.

The Serbian wants to become a monk when he retires and explained: "Serving the Lord is the greatest thing one can do. It is very hard to live in this world and obey all God's commandments.

"I intend to spend as much time as I can thinking about God, and I visit monasteries whenever I can.

"Tattoos are my only vice. Others go for alcohol, tobacco or women, but in my case it's having tattoos done. But I am becoming less obsessed with them every day, thanks to the Lord's help."
