, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 18, 1995--In an effort to address the day-to-day connectivity needs of information systems (IS) managers and network administrators, 3M has introduced more than 125 new connectivity products for use with PCs, local area networks (LANs), midrange and mainframe computers, and peripherals.

3M's new connectivity family includes media adapters, adapter cables, connectors, patch panels A group of sockets used to connect incoming and outgoing lines in communications and electronic systems. Patch panels allow for manually wiring the connections with small cables (patch cords), rather than automatic switching. , data grade line cords and transceivers that are compatible with local area networking protocols.

Other core products include mainframe connectivity cables, baluns and assemblies that are compatible with IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  3270 mainframes and AS/400 midrange systems.

As part of its offering, 3M also can customize each product in its connectivity portfolio to meet customer requirements. This capability includes custom cables to user-specified length and pin-out configurations -- an important value-added feature for companies that need to move personnel from one location to another.

All products in 3M's new connectivity portfolio are available now through the company's network of data specialty dealers, distributors and resellers.
