The alliance is part of 3M's strategy to expand its product offerings and presence in the marketplace.

Based on a review of industry annual reports and information from key distributors, lamination is an expanding global opportunity. Sales through distribution channels for the office market continue to grow at a substantial rate. The growth of the lamination industry can be linked to the explosion in color printer A printer that prints in color using three (CMY) or four (CMYK) colors of ink, toner or dye. As these color printers continue to decline in price, they will become more affordable to small and home offices and large corporations.

The system is available in two sizes. The LS950's small size and portability, makes it easy to laminate proposals, presentations, business cards, signs, custom labels, maps, menu layouts and more in the classroom, office or at home. The larger LS1050, laminates oversized o·ver·size

"We are very excited to be working with 3M," said Chuck Ensign, vice president of Business Development at Xyron Inc. "3M will provide access for the technology in the office market segment, which has been difficult for us to penetrate on our own. Xyron, under another agreement, will have access to 3M's experience in film and adhesive technology."

Distribution, Availability and Pricing

Both 3M Laminating Systems will be sold through the commercial contract channel, office superstores and by mail order. The retail products will be available in mid-November at a suggested retail price of $215.60 for the LS950 and $2,048.20 for the LS1050.
