The 3M Smart Tag incorporates TI's Tag-it(TM) smart label inlays in a paper-thin label that can easily be attached to any item. 3M has achieved world-class levels of efficiency in converting TI's RFID inlays to labels. 3M is also showing its small-format mid-range reader, the 3M Smart Reader, which is integrated in the 3M Smart Handheld and 3M Smart Pad. The Smart Reader was developed in a smaller form factor required for the ergonomically-designed, cordless Smart Handheld Assistant device, which will be available in the first quarter of 2003. The 3M Smart Pad is a new flat reader device designed to sit on a desk or at a work station to program tags, check items in or out, track file locations, and expedite workflow. The Smart Pad, currently in its Beta version A pre-shipping release of hardware or software that has gone through alpha test. A beta version of software is supposed to be very close to the final product, but, in practice, it is more a way of getting users to test the software in the first place under real conditions. , will be available in 2003.
