3M Italia S.p.A. Buys Electrical Cable Accessory Manufacturer.AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 10, 1997--3M Italia S.p.A. today acquired Miel S.p.A., an Italian company that makes medium voltage cable accessories for electrical cables and equipment utilized by electrical power utilities and industry. Miel's products, including splices, terminations and dead break elbow technology, broaden 3M's product offering. The acquisition better positions 3M to be a global supplier of cable accessories to utilities, electrical contractors and industrial customers. The price of the acquisition was not disclosed. 3M already sells power cable accessories, splices and terminations, some with a number of built-in features, to utilities and large industrial companies around the world. Miel was a privately-owned company founded in 1982 by Angelo Mariani Angelo Mariani or Ange-François Mariani (1832 - 1914) was a French chemist, originally from the now French-owned island of Corsica. He is most well known as the inventor of the first cocawine, Vin Mariani in 1863. . 3M purchased all of the stock of the company from its owners.
