3M Board of Directors Elects Vance D. Coffman to Serve as Lead Director.

, Minn. -- 3M Company announced today that Vance D. Coffman Retired Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, Lockheed Martin Corporation.

Currently on the Board of 3M. He is a graduate of the program for senior executives at the MIT Sloan School of Management

  
, a member of the company's Board of Directors since 2002, has been elected as lead director, effective immediately.

In this newly created role, Mr. Coffman will lead executive sessions of 3M's independent directors and will facilitate information flow and communication between the directors and the chairman, in addition to other duties specified by the board.

"With the establishment of a lead director -- especially one as qualified and capable as Vance Coffman -- we are further enhancing 3M's excellent governance practices and reputation," said George W. Buckley George W. Buckley is the Chairman, President and Chief Executive of 3M. He was named to these positions on December 7 2005.

Buckley came to 3M from Brunswick Corporation where he served as chairman and chief executive officer since June 2000.
