3Dlabs Introduces New High-End Wildcat4 AGP 8x-Optimized Professional Graphics.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 22, 2002

Wildcat wildcat, common name of two Old World cats, the European wildcat, Felis sylvestris, of Europe and W Asia, and the African wildcat, or kaffir cat, F. lybica, of Africa and Asia. 4 Delivers More Graphics Memory Than Any Other AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) A high-speed 32-bit port from Intel for attaching a display adapter to a PC. It provides a direct connection between the card and memory, and only one AGP slot is on the motherboard. 8x Card and

32 Percent Superior Workstation Performance Over Nearest Competitor

3Dlabs(R), Inc. Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Creative Technology Ltd. (Nasdaq:CREAF CREAF Creative Technology Ltd (stock symbol)
CREAF Centre de Recerca Ecològica i Aplicacions Forestals
), today introduced two new Wildcat4 products into its high- and ultra high-end Wildcat(R) professional graphics accelerator A display adapter that performs a specialized set of graphics functions to render an image on screen. Today, all display adapters provide basic rendering functions in hardware, but many have graphics processing units (GPUs) that are sophisticated computers.  line to increase the performance and visual quality of AGP 8x-based workstations. The new Wildcat4(TM) 7210 and Wildcat4 7110 graphics accelerators, available next month from leading OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  systems manufacturers, deliver up to 32 percent higher graphics performance than any other currently shipping card used for high-end CAD and DCC (1) (Direct Cable Connection) A Windows 95/98 feature that allows PCs to be cabled together for data transfer. DCC actually sets up a network connection between the two machines. , advanced video compositing, and HDTV (High Definition TV) A set of digital television (DTV) standards that offer the highest resolution and sharpest picture. Although some HDTV sets are available in standard (rather square) screen sizes, the overwhelming majority of sets are wide screen, which eliminates  editing.

"Design professionals working in graphics-intensive environments can step-up to the Wildcat4 and get the same great features and quality of the Wildcat III, but with impressive increases in performance and AGP 8x interface support," said Jerry Peterson, executive vice president and general manager of 3Dlabs workstation division. "The increased bandwidth of the AGP 8x bus coupled with Wildcat4 will significantly enhance 3D visualization on the desktop. It doesn't get any better or faster than this."

Wildcat4 technology takes complete advantage of the new AGP 8x interface standard, transferring 2GB of graphics information per second between the graphics card and system. The Wildcat4 architecture also combines geometry and raster The horizontal lines (scan lines) displayed on a TV or computer monitor. This is the origin of the term "raster graphics," which is the major category that all bitmapped images and video frames fall into (GIF, JPEG, MPEG, etc.).  engines into a single, high-performance, high-bandwidth, integrated processor for today's best professional graphics performance on the desktop.

The Wildcat4 graphics products are available next month in leading systems running Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 2000 and Windows(TM) XP. Both cards feature custom drivers for AutoCAD and 3ds max(TM). 3Dlabs also plans to introduce its own 3D-optimized Linux(R) drivers for the Wildcat4 family.

The Wildcat4 Family

Wildcat4 continues 3Dlabs' tradition of offering high-end features and quality for unmatched designer productivity. There are two Wildcat4 models: the ultra high-end Wildcat4 7210 with a total of 384MB of on-board memory -- the first AGP8x add-in board to offer this capacity -- and the high-end Wildcat4 7110 with an impressive 256 MB total on-board memory.
