3Deep Now Supports 3Dfx Glide-Based Games; 3Dfx and Sonnetech Combine Efforts to Bring Revolutionary 3D Enhancement Technology to a Broader Range of Game Applications.

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 15, 1999--Sonnetech Ltd., today announced that 3Deep(TM), the first solution for accurate lighting and shading in 3D games, now supports the Glide(TM) 3 multimedia application programming interface (API (Application Programming Interface) A language and message format used by an application program to communicate with the operating system or some other control program such as a database management system (DBMS) or communications protocol. ) from 3Dfx Interactive(R). Glide, which is optimized for the 3Dfx Voodoo Graphics A family of 3D graphics accelerator chipsets originally from 3Dfx that are used in a variety of 3D display adapters from major manufacturers. (TM) and new Voodoo 3 chipsets, revolutionizes the gaming industry with its ability to perform high-end graphics and 3D effects.

3Dfx Interactive and Sonnetech combined their efforts to extend 3Deep's cutting edge technology to Glide developers. 3Deep maintains the consistency and quality of the 3D images across displays and graphics boards using 3Dfx silicon.

"Today's hottest game titles are designed to take advantage of the high-performance features offered by 3Dfx Voodoo(TM) accelerators via the popular Glide API Glide was a proprietary 3D graphics API developed by 3dfx used on their Voodoo graphics cards. It was dedicated to gaming performance, supporting geometry and texture mapping primarily, in data formats identical to those used internally in their cards. ," said Scott Sellers Scott Sellers (born 16 August 1986) is an American track and field athlete who holds numerous high school records in the high jump. Sellers broke the national indoor record with a jump of 2.27m in Landover, Maryland. , Senior Vice President of Product Development at 3Dfx Interactive. "Connecting Glide with the 3Deep Gamma calibration assures that developers will consistently achieve industry-leading performance and the highest possible image quality."

3Deep, originally developed in collaboration with Microsoft for their DirectX 6 API, has received several accolades from the media, developers and gamers alike as the only solution for guaranteed consistent lighting and shading. Titles published by Rage, Electronic Arts, Microsoft, Psygnosis and GT Interactive among others, already include the 3Deep functionality in their games.

"3Deep provides the gamer with the ability to see the detailed renderings of today's 3D games," said Peter Bernard, Director of Sonnetech Product Management, "without 3Deep there is a wide variation of lighting and shading display quality across video boards and displays."

The 3Deep process begins on the developer's system where the software allows them to specify desired lighting and shading (gamma values) for their game scenes. Knowing how the gamer's system uniquely displays colors, 3Deep does the math to make the necessary adjustments on the gamers display on-the-fly, without slowing game-play. By adjusting the gamma, images seen by the gamer match exactly the vibrant, lighting and shading the developers saw on their system.
