in 3DO's new PC game, High Heat Baseball(TM) '99.

Released on the opening day of the 1998 baseball season, the game was developed by The 3DO Company's Team .366, the industry's one and only baseball studio. The newest contender in the highly competitive baseball sports genre brings to life the true baseball experience like no other game on the market.

With an unsurpassed blend of action and realism, High Heat Baseball is the first game to give accurate and complete control over both the pitcher and batter, provides incredibly accurate fielding and base-running, and incorporates it all into a speedy pace of play that delivers three hours of baseball action in 30 minutes.

"This is simply the best baseball game Noun 1. baseball game - a ball game played with a bat and ball between two teams of nine players; teams take turns at bat trying to score runs; "he played baseball in high school"; "there was a baseball game on every empty lot"; "there was a desire for National League  I have ever played," said Trip Hawkins William M. "I put this team of developers together almost three years ago because of their passion for baseball and gaming. Today, Team .366 delivered more realism and fun in a baseball game that will set the standard for future games."

Play Ball

High Heat Baseball delivers unprecedented authenticity with 1998 MLBPA MLBPA Major League Baseball Player's Association  rosters, 1997 statistics, all 30 big league ballparks plus the new ballpark in San Francisco San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden  in beautiful hi-resolution graphics, an incredibly high frame rate that goes well beyond the competition, intelligent crowd noises, and real Major League play-by-play announcing. But it is the actual game play model and the ability to implement baseball tactics and strategies accurately for the first time ever that will keep gamers playing for hours and coming back for more.

80 percent of the game of baseball is the pitch and the swing. Team .366 took painstaking efforts to build an artificial intelligence (AI) for the game, called TruPlay(TM), in order to create the most realistic and fun game that is also as rewarding as playing the game of baseball itself. High Heat models the pitcher's pitches accurately, models the physics of the pitch and swing correctly, and provides the user with an unobtrusive but complete tool-set to think, act, and react like major league hitters and pitchers. For example, using the innovative "guess pitch" option and the batting interface, the batter can react to the speed of a pitch and location with split-second timing. Over time, players will actually learn to pitch and hit as well as appreciate their success just as a real player would.

Playing against the computer controlled players will be equally as rewarding as these players also have the ability to act realistically in all situations. The AI takes everything into account. Not only does it check who is batting and pitching but it checks the count, the inning, the score, who is on base, who is on the bench, and who is waiting to warm up in the bullpen. Additionally, the playing logic of the runners and fielders are also checking every aspect of the game before taking any action.

The only aspect of High Heat that is not an accurate representation of the game itself, corrects one of baseball's biggest criticisms that it is too slow-paced due to all of the dead time. No one wants to spend three hours on one game. High Heat eliminates any downtime so players are doing what is exciting about baseball 100 percent of the time. It is all of the realism and fun with none of the wait.

Play-by-Play With Ted Robinson

Ted Robinson, a veteran broadcaster of both national and international sporting events, brings baseball gaming commentary to the next level. Contributing both his extensive baseball expertise and easily recognizable voice, Robinson brings 15 years of professional radio and television broadcasting experience to High Heat Baseball '99.

"To me, what sets this game apart is the designers' passion for baseball," said Robinson. "High Heat offers an incredible attention to detail that the true baseball fan will notice and appreciate. If you're a baseball fan, you'll love this game."

The Fans

There is already a lot of consumer enthusiasm for the game. Here is only a small tidbit of what some High Heat customers are saying online:

"Each at bat has become this cerebral battle, that 'game within a game' baseball folks talk about.
