3D Systems Signs Multi-Million Dollar Volume Purchase Agreement; Company's Largest Contract in History for Deployment of Solid Imaging Technology.

VALENCIA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 13, 2000

3D Systems Corp. (Nasdaq:TDSC TDSC Thai Development Support Committee

), the worldwide leader in solid imaging technologies, today announced that it has signed an agreement with the Hong Kong Hong Kong (hŏng kŏng), Mandarin Xianggang, special administrative region of China, formerly a British crown colony (2005 est. pop. 6,899,000), land area 422 sq mi (1,092 sq km), adjacent to Guangdong prov.  Productivity Council (HKPC HKPC Hong Kong Productivity Council ) and Ying Feng Precision Machinery to provide at least 100 of its ThermoJet(TM) office printers to businesses throughout Hong Kong.

The agreement, which is valued at over $4 million over a 24-month period to 3D Systems, is part of a program to deploy advanced technologies for improving the productivity and competitive positions of Hong Kong manufacturers.

"The HKPC formed a special committee with ten local industry organizations to select the solid imaging equipment that best met the needs of our local manufacturers," stated Dr. Sun-Wing Lui, branch director of the HKPC. "After a thorough evaluation of the leading players in this market, we chose 3D Systems' ThermoJet printer due to its speed, ease of use, superior model quality and overall value."

HKPC's interest in solid imaging technologies was spurred by an earlier partnership with Unigraphics Solutions Inc., a leading supplier of manufacturing design automation software. The successful deployment of Unigraphics software for designing and visualizing visualizing,

product designs led to the necessity to convert these digital images into physical objects.

As a result, the HKPC chose 3D Systems' ThermoJet product, which quickly converts computer designs into solid models using technology similar to ink jet See inkjet printer.  printing. Instead of printing ink, the ThermoJet printer deposits a molten thermoplastic A polymer material that turns to liquid when heated and becomes solid when cooled. There are more than 40 types of thermoplastics, including acrylic, polypropylene, polycarbonate and polyethylene.  in a layering fashion to build up a solid model. These communication models can be held, evaluated, tested and iterated early in the manufacturing cycle. ThermoJet models can also be used as master patterns for molding and casting applications.

HKPC's initiatives are designed to provide local industries in Hong Kong with affordable access to the advanced technologies utilized by some of the world's leading manufacturers, such as Ford, Boeing, Motorola and Mattel.

"We are extremely pleased that Hong Kong industry shares 3D Systems' vision of using 3D printing technology as an everyday design tool," stated Lee Dockstader, vice president of Asia Pacific Operations for 3D Systems. "Our printers will help local companies to communicate product designs faster and better within their own organizations as well as with potential customers and suppliers."

"We are excited to be part of this important initiative to deploy our technology on a grand scale," stated Brian Service, president and chief executive officer of 3D Systems. "We intend to not only provide Hong Kong businesses with a means to improve their manufacturing processes, but also foster a relationship to fulfill their ongoing needs for printer upgrades, service, maintenance and materials."

The HKPC is a multidisciplinary organization established by statute in 1967 to promote increased productivity and the use of more efficient methods throughout Hong Kong's business sector. The Popularization pop·u·lar·ize
