``The first-phase launch of the Viper si2 system is geared toward customers in the jewelry jewelry, personal adornments worn for ornament or utility, to show rank or wealth, or to follow superstitious custom or fashion.

customers to participate in a product testing program. 3D Systems used the collected data to make improvements to the Viper system before it became commercially available.

``The system allows us to rapidly produce tooling inserts with very high resolution. We are able to use this system to produce a variety of highly detailed medical devices such as syringes, diagnostic kits and parts with small flow channels,'' said Rob Connelly, president of FineLine Prototyping of Raleigh, N.C., which served as a test site for the new system.

Included in the Viper si2 system is the updated 3D Lightyear 1.2 software, which prepares the digital file to be built on the system. 3D Systems will release the updated Lightyear software for the SLA 3500, 5000 and 7000 systems later this year.
