) today announced that, through 3Com Ventures, a business development group within the company that invests in emerging technology companies worldwide, it has made an equity investment in Silicon Value, a leading System-on-Chip (SOC (System On a Chip) The electronics for a complete, working product contained on a single chip. Silicon Value, headquartered in Jerusalem, Israel, has developed a breakthrough technology that achieves extremely high circuit densities on ASIC chips while solving the time-to-market problems associated with deep submicron ASICs. Silicon Value's smaller chip size results in substantial cost reductions and allows more functionality to be put on chips than ever before. In addition, the smaller chip can operate at higher frequencies and requires less power, enabling a number of new applications in communications and consumer markets.

"Silicon Value provides a new breed of ASICs that are increasingly important to next-generation products where reducing costs, improving performance and time-to-market are critical," said Yair Sakov, director of Business Development, 3Com.

3Com is taking a two-pronged approach to enhancing its silicon capabilities company-wide. First, 3Com plans to selectively invest in companies like Silicon Value, which have advanced technologies that address the need for low-cost, high-performance silicon in the networking market. Second, 3Com plans to make acquisitions to obtain the ASIC technology and intellectual property (IP) necessary to actively leverage and cultivate cul·ti·vate

"We are very excited about having 3Com as an investor in our future" said Moti Kintzlinger, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. "We have been serving 3Com's ASIC needs for the last three years and look forward to continuing our work with 3Com in the development of next-generation solutions for the marketplace."

The investment in Silicon Value also serves to expand 3Com's global investment portfolio, especially in Europe and Israel. In the past year, 3Com invested in the Orion Fund, an Israeli-based technology fund, in addition to the investment in Silicon Value. The company also acquired SmartCode Technologie, a leading developer and provider of wireless data communications data communications, application of telecommunications technology to the problem of transmitting data, especially to, from, or between computers. About Silicon Value

Silicon Value is a leading ASIC manufacturer that specializes in ultra-high performance and ultra-high-density ASICs targeted for communications and consumer applications. Its breakthrough full-custom design technology, the SiliconMaster(TM), enables quick integration and timing closure of complex, high-performance deep-submicron SOCs in the smallest-ever silicon areas in the ASIC industry - often as small as a quarter of the die size of other cell-based ASICs. This results in unprecedented reductions in manufacturing costs, integration of much more circuitry on single chips, higher performance, lower power consumption and faster time-to-market. Silicon Value's headquarters are located in Jerusalem, Israel. The US Design Center and the sales and marketing office are located in San Jose, California San Jose (IPA: /ˌsænhoʊˈzeɪ/) is the third-largest city in California, and the tenth-largest in the United States. It is the county seat of Santa Clara County. . For further information, please visit Silicon Value's website at www.silicon-value.com
