Agreement to Deliver New Core Logic and

Networking Technology Solutions to PC Industry

) and VIA Technologies, Inc., the world's leading fabless supplier of PC core logic chipsets, today announced a long-term technology relationship that will provide an innovative means of offering networking solutions to the PC industry.

Under terms of the agreement, 3Com's premier 10/100Mbps Ethernet media access controller (MAC) networking technology will be integrated with VIA's Apollo chipset A group of chips designed to work as a unit to perform a function. For example, a modem chipset contains all the primary circuits for transmitting and receiving. A PC chipset provides the electronic interfaces between all subsystems (see PC chipset for illustration).  South Bridge. By combining their respective PC core logic and networking technologies, VIA and 3Com will provide major PC OEMs with a cost-effective, yet reliable solution for building network-ready PCs for the commercial, desktop and mobile markets.
