3Com Carrier Networks Business supplies an integral part of the underlying wireless data access technology for the Sprint PCS Wireless Web service, introduced last September to four million subscribers nationwide. The Code Division Multiple Access InterWorking Function (CDMA IWF) within the Total Control(R) 1000 platform from 3Com Carrier Networks Business serves as the gateway between the CDMA wireless network and wireline networks, connecting directly to wireless switches to provide the interworking and protocol conversions required to deliver circuit-switched data capabilities to mobile data users. This feature reduces user toll charges and virtually eliminates network setup time to establish nearly instantaneous connections.
