(Nasdaq:PALM) today announced a licensing agreement to use Palm OS(R) technologies in 3Com's upcoming Internet appliance Also called "information appliance," "smart appliance," and "Web appliance," it is a device specialized for accessing the Web and/or e-mail. Designed for ease of use, it plugs into a telephone jack or LAN connection for Internet hookup.  line.

3Com plans to integrate popular features of the Palm OS software, including the HotSync(R) data synchronization Keeping data in two or more computers up-to-date so that each repository contains the identical information. Data in handheld devices and laptops often require synchronization with the data in a desktop machine or server.  technology, into 3Com's first Internet appliance which will debut later this year. These new breakthrough products are designed to dramatically simplify the family Internet experience in the home.
