) was honored Saturday, June 1, by Penn State University with the Distinguished Alumni Award for his personal, professional and community service achievements. Bruce Claflin has been involved with Penn State in a number of ways since graduating from the university in 1973. He currently serves on the College of Liberal Arts liberal arts, term originally used to designate the arts or studies suited to freemen. It was applied in the Middle Ages to seven branches of learning, the trivium of grammar, logic, and rhetoric, and the quadrivium of arithmetic, geometry, astronomy, and music.  Development Council and was involved in the creation of Penn State's recently formed School of Information Sciences and Technology. Through Claflin's leadership and as part of 3Com's investment in education, 3Com committed $1.25 million in cash and equipment to assist in the creation of the School of Information Sciences and Technology.

Bruce Claflin received a bachelor's degree in political science from the College of the Liberal Arts of Penn State University in 1973.
