3A International Inc. Combines 1394 Support Across Windows-based Platforms.

TEMPE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 14, 1999--

In support of the growing demand for 1394 connectivity devices, 3A International Inc. introduced at WinHEC 99 the IEEE 1394 Interface Kit (http://www.3a.com/interface_kit.htm ), which provides 1394 functionality for Windows(R) NT 4.0 and Windows CE 2.0 in the same packet.

The 1394 Interface Kit represents 3A International's continued support of the rapid adoption of the 1394 standard. Andreas Schloissnik, president of 3A International Inc. noted that "the 1394 Interface Kit will provide a lower barrier of entry for OEMs, VARs, businesses, and even individuals to add 1394 functionality to their products or systems.

"After successfully developing separate kits for Windows NT and Windows CE, we realized that a large segment of the market needed greater flexibility, especially now with the growth and development of 1394 enabled products.

"These users did not necessarily need one platform or the other but both or had not necessarily committed to one platform for use in their products. By providing both platforms with improved 1394 functionality and support, we create a win-win situation which will in turn continue to increase the market presence and penetration of 1394 exponentially."

The kit contains drivers and APIs for both Windows NT and Windows CE and numerous upgrades and enhancements from the previously separate kits. While supporting any X86-based platform with a PCI Bus, the 1394 Interface kit, which retails for $649.00, includes native support for all Sony 1394 image sensing products and is available for immediate shipping.

3A also announced that the popularity and large domestic and international installed base for the three-port CB-400 Cable Booster (http://www.3a.com/3acable.htm ) has helped lower production costs which 3A is passing along to prospective customers in the form of a new price structure.

The CB-400 provides a low-cost method to extend 1394 cable length and connect multiple devices. Schloissnik added that "the new price of a $175.00 per unit will help more companies and individuals purchase cable boosters in greater quantities which will help support the continued growth of 1394."

The new price structure also includes discount pricing for quantities of ten or more, which reduces the base price to $166.00 per unit.
