38th annual Canadian tax conference May 2-4, 2004. Gatineau, Quebec.The 38th Annual Canadian Tax Conference was held May 2-5 in Gatineau, Quebec. TEI's Canadian Income and Commodity Tax Committees put together top notch sessions with outstanding speakers, including panel sessions with CRA See Community Reinvestment Act. and Finance during which senior officials discussed current issues and developments. Other technical sessions included, tax appeals process, tax audit experiences, GST GST abbr. Greenwich sidereal time GST (in Australia, New Zealand, and Canada) Goods and Services Tax hot topics, cross-border financing tips and traps, CRA access to information, GST planning opportunities, and a jurisprudence update. The other purpose of the conference, and the primary reason it is held in the National Capital Region, is the opportunity to network with Federal Revenue and Finance officials. Auditor General of Canada The role of the Auditor General of Canada is to aid accountability by conducting independent audits of federal government operations. The Auditor General reports to the House of Commons, not to the government. Sheila Fraser Sheila Fraser (born September 16, 1950 in Dundee, Quebec, Canada) is the current Auditor General of Canada. She earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McGill University in 1972. She then became a chartered accountant in 1974 and FCA in 1994. delivered the keynote address during the Tuesday luncheon.
