38 arrested as protesters try to close down coal-fired power station.


HUNDREDS of police officers were brought in from across the country in a bid to stop protesters shutting down Britain's biggest coal-fired power station.

More than 38 people were arrested yesterday during the demonstration at Drax power station Coordinates:

Drax is a large coal-fired power station located near Selby in North Yorkshire in Northern England.
 in North Yorkshire for offences ranging from the possession of offensive weapons to criminal damage.

Protesters yesterday tried to close down the huge site, which they say is the UK's biggest single emitter of carbon dioxide carbon dioxide, chemical compound, CO2, a colorless, odorless, tasteless gas that is about one and one-half times as dense as air under ordinary conditions of temperature and pressure. .
