370 EXTRA JOBS ARE IN THE BANK; French boost for Scots cities.


ONE of Europe's biggest banks yesterday announced plans for hundreds of jobs in Scotland.

French bank BNP Paribas BNP Paribas (Euronext: BNP, TYO: 8665 ) is one of the main banks in Europe and France. It was created on 23 May 2000 through the merger of Banque Nationale de Paris (BNP) and Paribas.  intend to recruit an extra 370 staff to their offices in Dundee and Glasgow over the next three to five years.

"We wish the company every success for the future and remain committed to driving a vibrant, dynamic economy in Scotland."

BNP Paribas were created in 2000 through the merger of Banque Nationale de Paris and Paribas.

They are one of the world's top 15 banks, according to Forbes magazine, employ 140,000 people and have a presence in more than 85 countries.

Tony Solway, head of BNP Paribas Securities Services UK, said: "We anticipate strong growth in our business in the coming years."

 yesterday said their Scottish operations made a strong contribution to their overall 22 per cent annual increase in profits to pounds 1.15billion.

Ken Hillen, of Bank of Ireland Business Banking UK, said their Scotland team reported a 52 per cent growth in income.
