The buildings were crawling with rats - with dozens dead in open drains. DSPCA officers believe the presence of cats and rabbits suggests thugs were trying to blood young terrier pups for badger-baiting. The rescued dogs range from pups up to adult females with some believed to be pregnant. They included greyhounds, lurchers, Yorkshire Terriers, English and American bulldogs, Dobermans, German Shepherds and other terrier breeds known to be used in badger-baiting. No one was at home at the time and no arrests have been made. Gardai said officers recovered 10,000 ecstasy tablets, half a kilo of cocaine worth EUR35,000 and 4.5 kilos of cannabis resin worth EUR30,000.
