Byline: Daily News

VALENCIA - The Canyon Theatre Guild Theatre Guild

held its own version of the Tony Awards last weekend at the Valencia Country Club.

The theme was ``Salute to America'' as the guild celebrated 32 years of live theater.

The evening began with Olivia Valaer escorting the colors with her bagpipe bagpipe, musical instrument whose ancient origin was probably in Mesopotamia from which it was carried east and west by Celtic migrations. It was used in ancient Greece and Rome and has been long known in India.  version of ``Amazing Grace "Amazing Grace" is a well-known Christian hymn. The words were written late in 1772 by Englishman John Newton. They first appeared in print in Newton's Olney Hymns, 1779 that he worked on with William Cowper. .'' The guild board sang and danced a parody of ``That's Entertainment,'' and then the awards began in earnest.

Those who dressed in patriotic costume were recognized first, with Gaye and Mike McCreary winning that category as Uncle Sam Uncle Sam, name used to designate the U.S. government. The term arose in the War of 1812 and seems at first to have been used derisively by those opposed to the war.
