The fire broke out at the four-story Huanan Hotel in the city of Shantou around 12:20 p.m. Friday and engulfed the top three floors, Xinhua reported, quoting local police.
Firefighters put out the blaze in about three hours, it said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
According to local reports, the hotel has a total of about 30 rooms on the third and fourth floors.
