31 killed in hotel fire in south China.

HONG KONG, June 11 Kyodo

Thirty-one people were killed and 15 others injured in a fire at a hotel in Guangdong Province in southern China on Friday, the official Xinhua News Agency reported Saturday.

The fire broke out at the four-story Huanan Hotel in the city of Shantou around 12:20 p.m. Friday and engulfed the top three floors, Xinhua reported, quoting local police.

Firefighters put out the blaze in about three hours, it said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

According to local reports, the hotel has a total of about 30 rooms on the third and fourth floors.
