Decolonization was gradual and peaceful for some British colonies largely settled by expatriates but violent for others, where native rebellions were energized by nationalism. Declaration marked A consensus resolution commemorating the thritieth anniversary of the 1960 Declaration on the Granting of independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples was adopted at the close of the 1990 session (22 January-20 August, New York New York, state, United States New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It also reiterated the view that territorial size, geographical location, size of population and limited natural resources should in no way delay the speedy exercise of that right by the peoples of the Non-Self-Governing Territories. The UN was to continue its role in mobilizing public opinion in support of complete decolonization, the Special Committee declared.
