The 308th MI Battalion first activated on 1 April 1952 as the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 308th Communication Reconnaissance Battalion in the Organized Reserve Corps. (The Army later redesignated the "Organized Reserve Corps" as the "Army Reserve" on 9 July 1952.)
