300 years of black art.

This book, published in conjunction with the Smithsonian American Art Museum The Smithsonian American Art Museum is a museum in Washington, D.C. with an extensive collection of American art.

Part of the Smithsonian Institution, the museum has a broad variety of American art that covers all regions and art movements found in the United States.
to accompany the much-heralded traveling exhibition "African American Masters," gives a broad retrospective of 300 years of black art with detailed biographical sketches of the artists.

Though recommended for children, it is equally informative and visually satisfying for adults. The stories of individual artists are richly illustrated with samples of their work, from the Adinkra weavings of the Asante people of Ghana to the paintings of Jacob Lawrence and the photographs of Roy Decarava. The author, who has written more than 15 books for children and adults, tells their stories in lyrical prose.

"African American Masters" is one of five exhibitions featuring the museum's collections that are touring the nation through 2005. This tour began in New York in April 2003. In 2004-2005, it is scheduled to make these steps: Jan. 8-March 7, 2004, Cincinnati Art Museum (Cincinnati, Ohio); April 3-June 7, 2004. Currier Museum of Art Coordinates:
