30 major projects of Irrigation Department completed: Minister.

LAHORE, November 14, 2009 (Balochistan Times): Punjab Senior Minister Raja Riaz Ahmad has said that 30 big projects of Irrigation department undertaken for the improvement of the irrigation system across the province have been completed at a cost of Rs 34.40 million. This was disclosed at a meeting presided over by the Senior Minister here on Saturday. The minister apprised the meeting that 100 per cent work has also been completed on these schemes well before time, while remaining schemes would also be expedited. According to a hand out, Raja Riaz said that the rehabilitation of Shahiwala and Tarinda distributaries and Fordwah and Qaim Canals was done with Rs.1400 million,and Fatehpur Dam scheme, costing Rs 57 million, has also been completed. He said the work on 922 schemes of lining of the irrigation channels was in progress, adding that the work would be completed soon. This project would be completed at a cost of Rs 990 million. The minister directed completion of the remaining work on this project before the end of current financial year. The minister said the work in residential colony at Lahore has also been completed at a cost of Rs 197 million. Similarly, construction of residences for SE and XEN in Faisalabad has been finished, while the construction of Shujabad Canal Division at Multan has been completed at the cost of Rs 39 million.
