3-yr jail term finalized for ex-head of failed regional bank.


KANAZAWA, Japan, July 22 Kyodo

The lawyer for Shigeru Takagi, 73, said he has not appealed to the Supreme Court against the July 7 ruling by the Nagoya High Court's Kanazawa branch by Wednesday, the deadline for doing so.

The high court upheld the three-year prison term given by the Kanazawa District Court, saying the former president caused losses to the second-tier regional bank by lending 5.7 billion yen to a near-bankrupt advertising firm through a golf link operator owned by the bank in September 2000.

Ishikawa Bank, based in Kanazawa, the capital of Ishikawa Prefecture, went bankrupt BANKRUPT. A person who has done, or suffered some act to be done, which is by law declared an act of bankruptcy; in such case he may be declared a bankrupt.
