imaging products existing in the marketplace. Scion International, Inc., a medical device development and holding company, codeveloped the advanced 3-D system with Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd., Osaka, Japan.

This system allows the surgeon to perform surgery in either 2-D or 3-D without changing technique or using special glasses or a virtual reality helmet. For training programs, the Scion 3-D System should greatly reduce the number of procedures required to achieve an "expert" level, thus reducing hospital costs and improving patient morbidity rates.

Scion's new 3D system ensures real-time visualization without any noticeable lag in the video image. In addition, true and accurate rendering of color and depth perception is achieved, which is important during maneuvers such as tissue cutting or suturing. The Scion system utilizes state-of-the-art, high-definition SXGA (Super XGA) A screen resolution of 1280x1024 pixels. SXGA is commonly used on standard monitors, but provides a 1.25:1 aspect ratio, compared to the more common 1.33:1 (4:3) ratio. SXGA+ has a 1400x1050 resolution, which is an exact 1.33:1 ratio. RGB was derived from our own perception of color because human eyes are sensitive to red, green and blue (see trichromaticity). , LCD flat-panel technology.
