The 32ft yacht started taking on water 12 miles off the coast early yesterday morning. Boats from Kilkeel, Co Down, and Clogher Head, Co Louth, launched a joint rescue operation.

The Kilkeel team found the vessel at around 8.20am and helped the crew until the larger Clogher Head lifeboat arrived and attached a towline.

Kilkeel Lifeboat chief Roy Teggarty said: "This was a well co-ordinated rescue between both lifeboats."
