3 days late, Chinese media mentions torch ceremony disruption.


BEIJING, March 27 Kyodo

China's official media, which had ignored the attempted disruptions by demonstrators at Monday's Olympic torch lighting ceremony in Greece, reported one of the incidents for the first time on Thursday.

The incident was the top news story on the Chinese-language website of China Radio International, state-run media which mainly caters to overseas Chinese A list of famous people with Chinese ancestry living outside of the Republic of China and the People's Republic of China. Leaders and politicians

''Seen from the scene: The attention-seeking farce at the Olympic torch-lighting ceremony,'' said the article, which also carried two photographs of the incident.

A demonstrator ran out onto the field during Monday's ceremony, unfurling a black banner showing the Olympic rings as handcuffs, while Liu Qi Liu Qi can be:
  • Emperor Jing of Han, 6th emperor of the Western Han Dynasty
  • Liu Qi (Three Kingdoms) - eldest son of Liu Biao
  • Liu Qi (Communist) - former mayor of Beijing
, the president of the Beijing Olympics organizing committee, was giving a speech.

Chinese television, which had carried the ceremony live, interrupted the coverage when the incident occurred. Chinese newspapers on the next day did not mention the attempted disruption, saying only that the ceremony was successfully concluded.
