3 arrested in Hillside Drive robbery; Home invasion seen likely goal.

WORCESTER - Police believe three men with suspected gang ties were prepared to take over a Hillside Drive apartment by force if needed, but instead found no one home when they robbed it.

Hieu Minh Nguyen Minh "Pokerhost" Nguyen (born May 15) is a Vietnamese American professional poker player, residing in Bell Gardens, California.

Nguyen learned to play poker from his cousin Men Nguyen and has gone on to become a regular on the poker tournament circuit since 1999.
, 30, of 12 Fairbanks St., Worcester; Tu Ngoc Nguyen, 22 of 26 Windham St., Worcester; and Hung Duong, 24, of 78 Edge Hill Road, Braintree, were all arrested yesterday on charges they robbed Apartment 2 at 14 Hillside Drive around 1 p.m.

 along with Officer Kevin Krusas stopped the sport utility vehicle on Sterling Street, Sgt. Hazelhurst said.

"We found items that were missing from the apartment inside," Sgt. Hazelhurst said. The SUV is owned by Mr. Duong, he said.

In the front console in plain view was allegedly a replica .9 mm handgun, police said. There were also plastic handcuffs used sometimes by police during large arrests, marijuana and what police believe to be Ecstasy tablets, the sergeant said.

"Based on what we recovered in the vehicle, it appeared that these three suspects were prepared to use violence if someone was home," Sgt. Hazelhurst said.

Sgt. Matthew D'Andrea also recovered a silver handgun he saw on the side of the road on Montross Street. A witness told him the gun was thrown from the silver SUV, Sgt. Hazelhurst said.

"This could have a dangerous situation, had someone been in the apartment. We were fortunate the apartment was empty," Sgt. Hazelhurst said.
