3 TO STAND TRIAL IN ACTOR'S DEATH.

After an exhaustive preliminary hearing marked by recanting witnesses and questionable police tactics, a Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  judge on Thursday ordered three men to stand trial for the murder of actor Haing Ngor.

The defendants, seen running from the area where Ngor was killed in February, will stand trial for first-degree murder.

``While I accept the fact that the police have to vigorously investigate murder cases,'' the judge said, ``I do think there were some concerns how interview tactics left something to be desired. There were some mistakes, I believe, by the police.''

Defense attorney Kenneth Khan, who represents Chan, contended there was witness coercion and that evidence was manufactured by investigators eager to pin the case on someone.

Prosecutor Craig Hum, while noting the police investigation was not perfect, expressed confidence in the case and the office's prospects at gaining a conviction at trial.
